Interior of Family House in Haaften

Modular system
The interior of the house shows in every detail how it is developed from a modular system. That modular system is based on the brick size, the most common "Waal" format, measuring 21.5 cm long. The columns in the house are 2 bricks wide, 43 cm. The openings between the columns are 4 bricks and the basic module makes up 6 bricks, 130 cm. All walls of the house are placed relative to a 3-dimensional grid of 1.3 m in the 3 directions.

The tiles on the ground floor measure the same as the bricks of the walls. That makes the interior space experience also modular on a smaller scale. For example that makes all the windowsills covered with 4 tiles between the columns.

The specially made cabinets follow the modular measurements. The cross-shaped cabinets function throughout the house as bookcases and kitchen cabinets. The cabinets of the kitchen are also custom made out of Birch plywood and could be realized for less than a factory made kitchen. The counters are made of Ash wood. The roof light above the kitchen faces northeast. Kitchen

Study
In the study we see how the side roofs don't touch the round elements and leave a strip of light.

The windowsill is made, and so are all the windowsills throughout the house,  with 4 floor tiles.

The half round interior spaces proof to be very functional for cabinets, wash and bath rooms, sauna etc.
